Meet the Putnam Chorale

Putnam Chorale, Ltd., is a nonprofit community chorale founded in the summer of 1984. The Chorale has grown from twelve original members to over sixty singers currently. The chorale performs a variety of music consisting of clasical opera, folk, show-tunes, jazz, and seasonal music. During several Christmas seasons since 1984, the Chorale gave music-lovers in Putnam County the opportunity to sing along in The Messiah by G. F. Handel. The Chorale regularly performs in Spring and Winter concerts, with such selections as Beethoven's Mass in D, Durufle's Requiem, and Rutter's Magnificat and Gloria. In recent years they have performed numerous well-known works of J. S. Bach, F. Poulenc, G. Verdi, B. Britten, A. Vivaldi, and O. Respighi. The music is accompanied by the composer's intended instrumentation, a professional orchestra and professional soloists. You can view a selection of some of our Past Performances on our website with sample sound recordings.

Members of the Chorale hail from all of Putnam County as well as neighboring New York counties and Connecticut, and have represented the Chorale in performances at Carnegie Hall, France, Hungary, and Russia.

An offshoot of the main Chorale group is a small outreach group called The Putnam Chorale Ensemble. Their purpose is to bring music to those who are unable to attend our regular concerts, such as nursing home residents, and to join in local festivities, such as Christmas tree and Menorah lightings. The Chorale is also proud to sponsor an annual Messiah "sing-along" for the public during the Christmas season.

Putnam Chorale, Ltd., is supported by the generosity of the public, local businesses and through grants administered by the Putnam Arts Council. With this support, the Chorale will continue to bring beautiful music to Putnam County for many years to come.

Putnam Chorale, Ltd., is a member of Chorus America, a group who's mission is to strengthen choruses and increase appreciation of choral music so that more people are enriched by its beauty and power.
