Sybil Ludington Statue, Carmel, NYPutnam County has several historic sites, one of which is the proudly displayed statue of Sybil Ludington - Revolutionary War Heroine. On April 26, 1777, at age 16, she rode alone during the night on horseback covering many miles through the countryside to alert the volunteer militia to the burning of nearby Danbury, Connecticut, by the British. She was a very young female version of Paul Revere but not as well known. You can find this statue in Carmel overlooking Lake Gleneida.
