Our esteemed piano accompanist is retiring and we are in search of a replacement to start in September 2026. The weekly rehearsal service will be in Carmel, New York, and performances are in Putnam and surrounding counties.
Position Title: Accompanist
Overview
The Putnam Chorale seeks a highly skilled and collaborative accompanist to support weekly rehearsals and performances. The ideal candidate is an accomplished pianist with excellent sight-reading skills, strong ensemble awareness, and a passion for choral music. Experience with organ accompaniment is highly desirable but not required.
Responsibilities
Provide piano accompaniment for weekly chorale rehearsals
Collaborate closely with the Music Director to support musical preparation and artistic goals
Prepare and perform accompaniment for concerts, dress rehearsals, and other scheduled services
Support singers with accurate, sensitive, and stylistically informed playing
Maintain a high level of professionalism, reliability, and musical excellence
Schedule
Weekly rehearsals: Monday evenings, 6:30PM–9:30 PM from Sept through April with 4 Saturday rehearsals.
Additional services (concerts, dress rehearsals, special events) scheduled in advance.
Qualifications
Artist-level piano proficiency with strong sight-reading skills
Prior experience accompanying choirs or vocal ensembles preferred
Organ proficiency a plus
Dependable, well-prepared, and collegial
Strong communication and collaborative skills
Compensation
Based on experience.
